We analyze the time series of the coordinates of the ICRF radio sources. We show that the main part of these radio sources, including even the so-called "defining” sources, shows the significant apparent motion. In our case the corrections for their a priori coordinates are the time functions. The celestial reference frame stability is provided by the no-net-rotation condition which in our case leads the celestial reference frame axes to rotate with time. We calculated the parameters of this rotation for two physical models of the motion of the extragalactic radio sources, though the motion characteristics of all sources can be divided into four groups.
The motion of the first group of sources is linear and uniform. As far as the proper velocities of the radio sources are close to the speed of light and even exceed it in some cases, we naturally concluded that the radio sources are relativistic jets or plasma clouds moving with velocities closed to the speed of light. The linear and uniform motion has been explained by the model related with jet precession. The second group of sources demonstrates the non-uniform motion related with the acceleration processes of the matter in jets. The model of such sources is: the penetration of a compact cloud of matter into the jet which accelerates it up to the relativistic velocities.
According to the presented model we choose the list of ICRF sources which will form the most stable coordinate system during several decades.
