The discrepancy between astroclimatic prognosis and the real quality of imaging in large telescopes at most observatories is explained mainly by the imperfect temperature regime inside and outside of the dome. The use of the optical transfer function method provides a quantitative estimate of the effect of the dome's influence on the size of the stellar image in the telescope.
