An apparent error of several orders of magnitude in the accepted values of the density and/or composition of interstellar and intergalactic dust grains, and cosmological implications of the indicated revisions, are discussed. While the previously accepted values clearly hold for some galaxies, three indications of error are given consideration: (1) accretion of heavy-element dust grains into interstellar grit difficult to detect by known means; (2) line accretion by the solar system traversing galactic space, with the influx of micrometeoroids entrained by the solar system yielding density values too low by 4 orders of magnitude; and (3) evidence on the behavior of dielectric dust grains and its relation to the microwave background radiation. Indications are that existing intergalactic dust is too sparse to slow down the present expansion of the universe.
