Results are reported on Ar-40/Ar-39 age determinations of Apollo-14 rocks, which were carried out to investigate the local geological history of the Apollo-14 landing site, to assess the subregolith basement of the Fra Mauro Formation, and to determine the composition of the pre-Imbrian lunar crust. Samples represented two different formations at the Apollo-14 site: (1) two small lithic clasts from fragmental breccia 14063 ejected from the 26-Ma-old Cone crater and one clast from Cone crater soil 14140, and (2) large rock samples collected throughout the regolith of the landing site. The ages of these clasts confirm suggestions by Deutsch and Stoeffler (1987) and Stoeffler et al. (1989) that the Fra Mauro Formation and, therefore, the Imbrium basin, is only 3.75 Ga old and not 3.85 Ga old, as commonly assumed.
