In order to evaluate the Caltech solar site survey of 1965-1967, the solar seeing at 102 locations in Southern California was assessed based on 6009 visual estimates obtained with portable telescopes. The effects of cloud cover and other meteorological factors on seeing were determined. The seeing was shown to be best at various sites associated with water. The importance of the Bowen ratio in determining the influence of water vapor on seeing is emphasized.
