We summarize the preliminary work on the Bolocam Galactic Plane Survey (BGPS) Distance Omnibus Project, a project that aims to measure distances to ˜ 104 clumps of dense molecular gas in the Galactic plane. The clumps are detected in the Bolocam Galactic Plane survey, which is sensitive to dust emission from dense gas structures. We calculate probability distribution functions using a variety of methods including a prior model of the molecular gas distribution in the Galaxy, kinematic distances and associations with infrared dark clouds. Where available, dense gas tracers are used to calculate the velocities. Most of the sources only have diffuse gas observations (e.g., HI or CO) available from surveys. We propose a simple calculation of source spectra from these diffuse gas tracers that enables a kinematic distance estimate.
