Results are reported from the optical follow-up of the B3-VLA sample, which is a homogeneous sample of 1103 radio sources selected from the B3 catalog (complete down to S greater than or equal to 100 mJy at 408 MHz). A total of 356 sources were identified by Vigotti et al. (1989) on the Palomar Sky Survey using structural information from VLA maps and positional coincidence. Out of these, 180 are quasar candidates. Using the 2.2-m telescope at Calar Alto, 20 spectra of quasar candidates were obtained: 18 of them proved to be quasars; one turned out to be a star; and one was a compact galaxy.
