Limitations of vision are considered with attention to the Mach effect and the MTF. Objective visualization methods and procedures for extracting information from a photograph are examined; microphotometric methods, isodensitometric methods, photographic methods, and video procedures are surveyed. Image processing techniques discussed include three-dimensional representation of an image, contrast intensification, the compositing of photographs, spatial high-frequency filtration, and image restoration.
