We have developed a state-of-the-art Web-tool called "Appreciating Hubble at Hyper-speed" (AHaH ) that uses the HST Cycle 14 Treasury Project "PEARS" (Probing Evolution And Reionization Spectroscopically) data. Combining this spectroscopic data with the stunning beauty and unprecedented depth of the Hubble Ultra Deep Field, AHaH is a three-dimensional interactive simulation of the universe. With galaxies visible from redshifts z = 0.05 to z = 6.5, this web-tool allows the user to move through 90% of the history of the universe. The goal of AHaH is to reinforce basic concepts of physics and astronomy, such as look-back time and galaxy evolution, that can be difficult for students to visualize using static lecture techniques. The AHaH application is provided as a stand-alone Java archive available for download. A series of short exercises, as well as a user manual and glossary of relevant terms, are provided for usage by students, instructors or interested members of the public. This poster will describe the AHaH tool and accompanying curriculum in more detail.
This research was funded by NASA grant HST/ED14-975, awarded by STScI, which is operated by AURA for NASA under contract NAS 5-26555.
