Conditions favoring the development of a star with a protoplanetary disk are shown to arise if the contracting protostar has an angular momentum confined to a certain range of values. A mechanism is also proposed for the formation of the star in the course of collapse of the rotating protostar. A single starlike core is shown to grow by accreting envelope material as the protostar collapses, and the angular momentum in the core is redistributed by turbulence and the magnetic field, enlarging the outerparts of the core in the equatorial plane until an extended circumstellar disk develops.
