The paper deals with the dynamical evolution of contact binaries of solar spectral type. An attempt is made to give an evolutionary model which takes into account the recent observational results especially concerning period changes, mass ratios, and contact parameters on one hand, and precise computations of the geometrical model and the different contributions to the angular momentum on the other hand. The proposed model is based on the dynamical evolution caused by stellar winds with emphasis placed on the coupling of axial rotation and orbital motion of components. The lifetime of the contact binaries related to the amount of angular momentum loss is analyzed.
