Consideration is given to using the mechanism of weak localization of photons in discrete disordered media as an interpretation of the opposition effect of atmosphereless bodies. A combination of vector multiple-scattering theory and scalar approximation is used to derive the amplitude of the opposition effect which is found to be overestimated. It is concluded that the scalar approximation should not be used to interpret observational data as it was by Shkuratov (1991).
