After delivery of the three Italian built Multi Purpose Logistics Modules to NASA KSC, the operational era of the MPLM began with ISS assembly mission 5A.1 and continued with other four missions. For all these flights an extensive engineering support has been provided to NASA under ASI mandate, by ALTEC and Alenia Spazio team, for the MPLM sustaining engineering. This paper provides an overview of the implemented ALTEC Centre infrastructure and functions (the newly built ALTEC Engineering Support Centre) as well as the processes and supporting operational organisation that allowed the execution of the activities completely in remote from ALTEC. The whole history of the first set-up of the Centre and of the support operations to MPLM missions is presented, with special emphasis on the technical issues resolved, operational solutions adopted and all other kind of lessons learned. In particular Real-time mission operations support to NASA MCC-H, as well as ground processing test support to NASA KSC SSPF are extensively described. The paper focuses also on the organisation of the real-time support, in terms of the participation to MCC-H processes and setting-up of internal processes, the level of intervention provided, and the modifications of these aspects mission by mission, up to the steady state condition currently reached.
