The importance of an accurate agreement of the characteristics of the actual reflector surface with the properties of the ideal surface in the case of optical and radio telescopes is considered. The obtainable surface quality of the reflectors of optical telescopes and the methods used for testing the surface characteristics are briefly discussed. A description is given of the procedures which can be used for a correction of the surface characteristics of the aluminum-steel reflectors of radio telescopes. The required mathematically defined surface characteristics are obtained with the aid of approaches involving the adjustment of the sectional elements. Advantages and drawbacks of the various available methods are evaluated.
