It is shown that the acceleration of electrons needed for the generation of synchrotron radiation in the optical range can be provided by shock waves if a self-consistent regime of Alfven wave generation exists. The turbulence level near the front is evaluated, and the possibility of directly studying this turbulence level on the basis of radiation spectrum and polarization at frequencies greater than the cutoff frequency is discussed. A correlation between alpha and the cutoff frequency is predicted. It is suggested that the turbulence is not self-consistent if this correlation is not present.
