It is argued that the major sources of NO and SiO in diffuse clouds are reactions with OH and the major sinks are photodissociation. Simple relationships between the abundances of NO and SiO and the abundance of OH are developed. The predicted abundances of NO and SiO fail by more than two orders of magnitude to reproduce the measured abundances in the Zeta Ophiuchi cloud. Because the predicted abundances of NO and SiO are tied closely to the abundance of OH, a measured quantity, the discrepancies can be resolved only by substantial changes in the cloud structure and cloud chemistry.
