The transition probability of the only good indicator of the solar
abundance of cadmium, the Cd I line at 5085.823 A, has very recently
been measured with high accuracy. A new value of the solar abundance of
Cd is derived from a careful analysis of this line and it is found that
A(cd) = 1.77 + or - 0.11, in agreement with the meteoritic value.
