Scientific paper

A new method of determining the absolute dimensions of a contact binary
based on minimum light times is presented and applied to the system AW
UMa. This method is independent of spectroscopic data. The results show
that the model of Rensing et al. (1985) for correcting for the closeness
effect in spectral lines is applicable in this case.
