The BL Lac type quasar PKS 1749+096 underwent strong optical outbursts (R 13.8) during the summers of 2007 and 2008. To study the variation timescales we initiated an intensive observing program to obtain R filtered CCD images at the Colgate University Foggy Bottom Observatory (FBO). These data, along with earlier observations from FBO's quasar monitoring program, reveal that during both the 2007 and 2008 outbursts this blazar reached its brightest optical level in three decades. Comparison of millimeter wavelength radio observations with the optical light curve indicates radio variations may be correlated with the optical outbursts.
