I will provide a brief introduction to the emerging field of
ground-based gamma-ray astrophysics. Selected recent results will be
presented to show the progress of the field, with a special focus on the
TeV gamma-ray radiation from active galactic nuclei, microquasars, and
gamma ray bursts.
