We report on our tests of phase induced amplitude apodization (PIAA) coronagraphs in a new laboratory at NASA Ames. This laboratory is operated in a highly stabilized air environment, and it complements existing efforts at NASA JPL’s high contrast imaging testbed. At the time of writing, we are operating a refractive PIAA system and have achieved imaging contrast of 7 × 10-8 in a dark zone from 2.0 to 4.8 λ/D from an artificial star. We are also directing L3 Tinsley Laboratories in the fabrication of a next generation polychromatic PIAA coronagraph mirror set.
