The last years have seen a wealth of new molecular line data towards starbursts in the early and local Universe, especially from high density tracers like HCN and HCO+. Given the difficulties in the interpretation of the data, we started a project with the IRAM 30m telescope to study the chemistry and excitation of HCN/HCO+ toward the famous Galactic starburst template W49A. We probed W49A with the lower molecular rotational transitions of 13CO, C18O, HCN, HCO+. Our preliminary results showed that HCN/HCO+ ratios are generally below unity, which is a characteristic of X-ray dominated regions (XDRs) (Meijerink et al. 2005, 2007).
