An improved polar-wind model is developed, and modeling results are examined. Calculations are made of the temperature regime of the polar wind with allowance for heating by photoelectrons, and an evaluation is given of characteristic times of the nonstationarity of the polar wind as well as variations of the ion composition. The results indicate that processes of the free outflow of ionospheric plasma may be the only source of oxygen ions in the magnetosphere beyond (and inside) the plasmapause.
