The possible relationship between temperature periodicities in the mid-latitude middle atmosphere and the sunspot cycle was investigated using rocket temperature data over Volgograd 949 deg N, 44 deg E) and sunspot number data for the period 1971-82. All the periodicities observed are shown to be subharmonics of the 11-yr solar cycle, indicating an association of middle atmosphere temperature changes with the 11-yr sunspot cycle. None of the periodicities reported here is a probable harmonic of the 27-day solar rotation period.
