NASA's Kuiper Airborne Observatory (KAO) was used to observe emission lines of H2O and CH4 immediately following the impacts of the G and K fragments of SL9 with Jupiter. These data provide quantitative information on the temperature history of the impact sites at the 3 to 10-mu bar level for the first hour after impact. We have analyzed spectra acquired 14 and 40 minutes after the impact of G and K. The temperature is constrained by ratios of CH4 lines at 7.7 mu m and H2O lines at 22.6 and 23.9 mu m. Using the short-wavelength data, we obtain temperatures between 1000 and 1200K at t0 + 14 min. By t0 + 40 min the temperature had cooled to 600K. We adopted a temperature profile increasing smoothly from a quiescent value of 175K at 100 mu bar to 600K at 3 mu bar. For the G impact we obtained a mass of H2O equal to 2.8x10(12) grams using the 7.7-mu m data 14 min after impact. The retrieved abundance of H2O using long-wavelength data at t0 + 40 min is 3x10(12) g above 3 mu bar and 1x10(13) g above the 10-mu bar level.
