The lack of accurate data on the illumination conditions on the surface of Venus dictated the design features of the television system installed on the Venera 9 and 10 Venus descent vehicles. Some of the principal design characteristics of the panoramic television chamber and automatic sensitivity control system are given. Two panoramas of the surface of Venus are shown, which were not processed by computer. It is apparent that incident radiation is very bright while reflected radiation is of low brightness. Contrast details, however, are present, the contrast of relief elements attaining several tens percent.
