This paper summarises the learning experiences of a teacher intern who attended the two week graduate level summer school given by the Center for Space Weather Modeling (CISM); and who subsequently spend another two weeks desiging laboratory exercises that were based on the material presented at the summer school. Two of these laboratories that are based on professional research will be reviewed and the effect these laboratories had on the teacher's co-workers and the teacher's own students will be evaluated and described.
