Light curve analysis of the Mira star T UMi showed that the period of the star strongly decreases: between JD 2440000 and 2449250 the period dropped from 314.5days to 283.2days. Comparing the results with model calculations it seems that the period decreasing of T UMi may be due to a change in luminosity resulting from a shell flash in the helium burning shell. The rate of the period variation suggests that this Mira is just after the beginning of the shell flash.
