The nature of T Tauri's companion is reconsidered taking its radio spectrum into account. The properties of the T Tauri region are discussed, showing that the radio data can be interpreted quantitatively by a model in which spherical accretion occurs onto a protostellar core of two to three solar masses, rather than the 0.01 solar mass proposed by Hanson et al. (1983). In this model, the radio spectrum is thermal and the radio-emitting region is photoionized by the soft X-ray and EUV radiation emitted in the accretion shock surrounding the stellar core.
