For the first time a comprehensive level and decay scheme has been obtained for a T= 5/2 nucleus in the s-d shell(^27Na) by using a radioactive beam and target. States in ^27Na were populated using the ^14C(^14C,p γ) reaction with a 22 MeV ^14C beam from the FSU Superconducting Accelerator Laboratory. γ transitions in ^27Na were observed by measuring particle-γ coincidences with an E -Δ E telescope at 0^circ and the FSU-Pitt γ detector array including 3 Compton-suppressed Clover detectors. A total of 27 γ transitions and 22 levels have been placed in ^27Na. A consistent interpretation of the level scheme in terms of the 1s-0d shell model using the USD Hamiltonian is possible below 4 MeV, but differences increase at higher excitation energies. It appears that both p_1/2 proton and f_7/2 neutron intruder configurations play significant roles in the structure of ^27Na.
