If you want to be taken serious today, you should design or use systems-on-a-chip (SoC), or at least mention the word in your leaflets and project proposals. Do we really need the massive amount of compute power SoCs promise? Is it just a normal evolution of chips-that-ever-get-bigger or do we require fundamentally new architectures and design methods? What are the key challenges to solve? Will reconfigurable computing play a major role in this?
