Using the central velocity gradient as a representative parameter of the central masses of spiral galaxies, a preliminary comparison has been made with the most imortant properties defining the Hubble classification scheme. Significant correlations with the bulge-to-disk ratio and the pitch angle of spiral arms have been found for 39 and 30 spiral galaxies, respectively. These preliminary results are an additional evidence that (1) the light distribution reflects properties like central mass and density and (2) the arm shapes strongly depend on the central mass concentration as expected from the density wave theory. Although it will be desirable to confirm the present results as soon as a larger sample of data would become available, it already appears that the central velocity gradient can be regarded as a classification parameter accounting for morphological and kinematical properties of spiral galaxies.
