The observed sample of SNe Ia has increased dramatically over the last decade, and further success of the SN cosmology will eventually be limited by the systematic uncertainties of SNe Ia as precise luminosity distance indicators. Using spectra of SN Ia acquired by the SDSS-II SN Survey, we investigate whether spectroscopic data in conjunction with light curve data are capable of reducing these systematics. The observed SN spectrum is often, however, contaminated by light from the host galaxy. In order to quantitatively study the properties of spectral features of the SNe Ia, we have developed an effective host-subtaction tool using a composite PCA+template-fitting program with color constraints from the photometry. We have applied this technique to more than 700 spectra of 535 SNe Ia at 0.01 < z < 0.4 obtained from the SDSS-II SN Survey and have compiled a large sample of host-subtracted spectra, which can be used to study the physical properties of the discrete spectrum. In this work, we investigate the correlations between the measured spectral features and the light curve properties, and discuss the potential applicability of spectral-luminosity indicators for cosmological studies.
