Synthetic fluid inclusions have been used to determine volumetric properties of H 2 O and a 20 wt.% KCl solution from 300-700°C and 1-3 kb. Comparison of results obtained for H 2 O with previously published data indicates that the synthetic fluid inclusion technique provides PVT data that are within a few percent of those obtained from conventional PVT studies. This technique thus provides a fast, relatively simple means of determining PVT properties of many fluids of geologic interest.
