Observations of Pi2 and Pc4 pulsations form the ATS-6 geostationary satellite and the earth's surface are compared. Agreement is observed between the spectral-temporal characteristics of wave packets observed simultaneously in the magnetosphere and from a network of ground-based stations located near the satellite's geomagnetic longitude. The relationship between the pulsation periods and amplitudes observed from the earth and from the satellite is examined. It is found that Pi2 wave trains were observed almost simultaneously from the ground and the satellite, that the general form of the observed pulsations was identical, and that the Pi2 pulsations observed from the ground consisted of very short and rapidly attenuating wave trains, while those observed from the satellite were detected continuously for tens of minutes without such sharp amplitude modulation. A 'self-suppression' effect is suggested as a possible reason for the rapid attenuation of the pulsations observed from earth.
