Improving previous studies, the synchronism between rotation and revolution has been rediscussed for close binaries by inspection of the published rotational velocities of about 140 eclipsing (and ellipsoidal) binary components. Basically, it has been found that almost all members of detached systems are synchronized up to fractional radii of r approximately 0.15, whereas, below this r-value, both synchronized and asynchronized rotators are encountered with roughly comparable frequency up to r approximately equal to or less than 0.10. The corresponding high fraction of synchronized stars with r less than 0.15 appears to be clearly incompatible with current theoretical predictions (e.g., Zahn, 1977) on synchronization time scales.
