We are developing a Java/XML based distributed electronic preprint service. The goal is to create the tools and infrastructure necessary to allow (astronomical) institutes to create and maintain individual preprint collections while presenting end-users with a single, homogeneous, integrated preprint system and notification service. The system will track preprints to their final published form, and will seamlessly integrate with the online published literature. This project is funded by the NASA Applied Information Systems Research Program (NRA 96-OSS-10) under grant NAG5-3942.
