It is suggested that electric-charge accumulation on relativistic dust grains due to grain interactions with photons and interstellar gas atoms may compensate in some cases for the evaporation of grain material in strong electric fields. As a result, dust grains created in other galaxies could reach earth and produce extensive air showers. The survival probability of relativistic iron grains is estimated using experimental data obtained in electrostatic-ion-microscopic investigations of acicular metallic grains.
