Certain similarities concerning the distribution of craters on Mars and the moon point to the great density of the meteoritic material in the early planetary system at solar distances in the range from 0.3 to 1.6 AU. Effects of erosion on Mars are considered. Basic developments of terrestrial geological evolution are considered as basis for an understanding of the geological evolution of the planet Mars. Certain structural formations on Mars appear to be the result of effects produced by flowing water. Current conditions do not permit the presence of liquid water on the planet. The possibility of climatological changes exists in connection with variations concerning the inclination of the Martian orbit and the planetary axis. Climatic variations could also have been produced by changes in the intensity of the radiation emitted by the sun.
