The use of a Mills cross antenna of correlation type to study the distribution of the brightness temperature on the earth's surface is examined, focusing on the possibility of improving the process by suppressing the extended negative sidelobe in the beam pattern. A method for the compensation of this sidelobe is developed and applied to a study of the angular distribution of brightness temperature near the horizon. The results confirm the efficiency of the compensation of the negative sidelobe in the high-frequency channel of a correlation antenna, given a drop in the brightness temperature of the surface under study.
