I review the theory of supernova explosion mechanism for both core-collapse and thermonuclear events. In particular, I focus on the emerging prospects of probing the explosion physics directly through new classes of high-energy density laboratory experiments. Such experiments not only provide insights into basic physics problems but also aid validating computational machinery used to model supernova explosions.
