The paper investigates the latitude dependence of the ratio R of solar radiation induced ionization velocities in the X-ray and UV regions. The value of R has been determined from changes in the critical frequency of the E layer during solar X-ray emission bursts. It is shown that R approximately doubles with transition from low to medium latitudes, which may be due to a twofold increase in the E region molecular oxygen concentration with latitude.
