Submillimeter-wave brightness temperatures of the quiet Sun, sunspot regions and solar active zones were measured with the aid of balloon-borne 60 cm-diameter Cassegrain telescope from a height of 38 km on May 8, 1981. An average temperature increase of about 200 K at active zones and near sunspots above the temperature of the quiet Sun at 200 microns wavelength which corresponds to the lowest part of the chromosphere was found. On the other hand, this increase is only about 80 K observe at 80 microns in the upper photosphere.
