Bolometer systems used on largemm telescopes for carrying out sensitive continuum measurements are described. The MPIFR bolometer system on the IRAM 30 m MRT and the SEST (Swedish-ESO Submillimetre Telescope) telescope is given special attention. The characteristics of the bolometer are presented as that of representative example. Special observation procedures designed to account for variations in the limit surface of large telescopes due to gravity, temperature and wind are summarized. Performance figures and plans for future instrumentation are outlined.
