During 1976-1977, the Meteor satellite measured concentrations of N(+) and O(+) ions, integral electron fluxes with energies exceeding 350 keV, and large-scale drifts of O(+) ions. It is shown that electron precipitation from the magnetosphere and magnetospheric electric fields have a considerable influence on O(+) and N(+) concentrations, particularly in the unilluminated high-latitude ionosphere. In this region of the ionosphere, two quasi-annular regions of high O(+) and N(+) concentration were observed, one of which coincides with the auroral oval, and one of which coincides with the ionospheric cusp-cleft. During geomagnetic disturbances, O(+) and N(+) concentrations in the high-latitude region at a height of 900 km increase sharply; intense precipitations and drifts propagate to midlatitudes.
