The HST has been obtaining important new data about the interstellar medium through high angular resolution imaging and medium to high resolution ultraviolet spectroscopy. This presentation will briefly overview recent imaging results. However,the emphasis will be on HST spectroscopic studies of physical conditions and gas phase abundances in diffuse clouds found in the Galactic disk and halo.
