The relation of SiO 2 to the other major constituents in tektites has been studied. For the australites, SiO 2 is shown to vary inversely with Al 2 O 3 , FeO, MgO, CaO and K 2 O, but not Na 2 O. These relationships are shown graphically and are statistically significant. The lack of a significant relation between SiO 2 and Na 2 O is attributed to the poor quality of the sodium determinations. The averages of the australites, philippinites, billitonites, indochinites, moldavites and Ivory Coast tektites show inverse relationships between SiO 2 and Al 2 O 3 , MgO, FeO and Na 2 O; similar relationships exist between SiO 2 and Al 2 O 3 , MgO, FeO, CaO and Na 2 O for sixty-seven analyses of individual tektites. It is concluded that a significant inverse relationship exists between SiO 2 and the other major constituents in tektites, and that Al 2 O 3 , FeO, MgO, CaO, Na 2 O and K 2 O display positive correlations among themselves.
