California State University's San Fernando Observatory has been taking daily full disc solar images of the sun for more than a solar cycle (since 1985). This unique set of data presents the opportunity to examine characteristics of different solar features over a long period of time from a large sample set. Specifically, the variability of the intensity of sunspots (both the umbral and penumbral regions) will be looked at, as well as the relation to the intensity to the sunspot latitude. We will also be able to search for correlations between the sunspot contrast, such as sunspot size and lifetime. This data will be compared to previously published results from the authors Albregsten, F.; Maltby, P.; et. al. We expect to be able to look at a larger set of data over more days as well as a larger number of sunspots.
