The X-ray emission of radio jets and of the narrow line regions of active galaxies will be investigated with Chandra. Images and spectra will be obtained to define the morphologies, X-ray powers, emission mechanisms and physical conditions of both unresolved nuclear and extended emission. Detection of non-thermal X-rays (inverse Compton or synchrotron emission) will probe the properties of the magnetic fields and cosmic ray spectra. If thermal X-ray emission is detected, the density, temperature and chemical abundances of hot gas can be derived and the relationship to other components (radio emission, narrow line region) studied. Hot gas can be associated with hot radiatively driven winds, shocks driven by mass outflow or cooling accretion flows.
