A summary is given of experiments on large amplitude Alfvén waves in the Large Plasma Device at UCLA. The Alfvén waves are generated using either a resonant cavity (the Alfvén wave maser) or loop antenna and have magnetic field amplitude δB/B ~ 1%. These sources have been used to study a strong nonlinear interaction between Alfvén waves where two co-propagating waves beat together to drive an off-resonant Alfvén wave. In addition, with the launch of single large-amplitude Alfvén waves there is evidence for strong electron heating. The heating creates a highly-structured temperature profile which is unstable to drift-Alfvén waves.
